The Industry Challenge
Nigeria imports significant quantities of wheat flour for its bread and baked goods industry. Most of the grain in a Nigerian loaf was grown elsewhere, processed elsewhere, and shipped in. The smallholder farmer growing indigenous grains — bambara nuts, fonio, sorghum — rarely makes it into the formal food system at all.
A vertically integrated food business that starts at the regenerative farm and ends at the retail shelf, using Nigerian-grown ingredients, barely existed.
Business & Origins
OKB — the baking and processing arm of OKIN Group — was built to change that supply chain from the ground up.
It grows or sources from Nigerian regenerative farms, processes grains and legumes into value-added products — bambara flour, bambara milk, garri, bread — and sells finished consumer products to retail. Africa Eats invested at the early stage, as it does across the portfolio.
The vertical integration is the point. Each step that OKB controls is one less step captured by an importer, middleman, or commodity trader.
Value Proposition & Business Model
OKB is a vertically integrated bakery and processing operation — engineered for nutrition, climate resilience, and farmer prosperity.
It bakes bread and processes and packages flour and specialty products including bambara flour, bambara milk, and garri, using Nigerian-grown inputs sourced through its farm relationships. The business runs from regenerative farm to finished consumer product.
